Clearing the Browser Tabs – We Can’t Afford To Do It His Way Monday Edition

Posted: 27 Jun 2011 03:10 AM PDT

Contrary to what the President believes, we can “simply cut our way to prosperity”. The alternative — spending our way to prosperity — has been a miserable failure that has cost us and our children over $3 billion and “saved or created” jobs as a stunning million dollars a pop. One of the big takeaways from the CBO’s latest report is that we can’t afford to do it President Obama’s way anymore (via memeorandum). Washington has squeezed every dime out this economy it can and we “simply” don’t have any more to give. It is well past time we reminded the President and our members of Congress who their real bosses are.

And if they don’t get that message, we’ll replace them in November of 22.

And now, links.

A Little Night Music to Take You Back: “Inchworm”

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 09:57 PM PDT

How about a video? Here’s “Inchworm”, an old Sesame Street classic. Just because.

My Mom used to sing this song to me when I was young and, sometimes, I’d sing the counterpoint melody — the part with the math. I still have days and nights, even as a grizzled adult, when I want my Mom to sing to me as I drift off to sleep. I imagine I’m not the only one.

If you like the classics, here’s Danny Kaye from Hans Christian Andersen movie soundtrack. I honestly can’t remember whether my Mom got it from the movie or the show, but I know what I think of when I hear the song.

ABC News: How Awesome, Exactly, Is Michelle Obama?

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 04:19 PM PDT

I get that a significant portion of the MSM is in the tank for President Obama. That doesn’t bother me quite as much as it does come conservatives. I can discount most of what’s reported by the major media as thinly-veiled propaganda or ignorance borne of comfort and laziness. I do get insulted, though, when the open admiration for this administration turns into an outright tongue bath as it did in a report on Africa from David Muir on ABC’s “This Week” show today.

DAVID MUIR, ABC NEWS: There are many who wonder if Mrs. Obama's visit will help soothe criticism that her husband has not done enough to reach out to Africa. Critics point out just one visit while in office. Some argue the HIV/AIDS effort was stronger under the Bush administration. But the Obama White House argues it has laid out a plan for Africa combating hunger and widening public health outreach beyond HIV.

The question now: will some of that deeply felt criticism in Africa melt under the glow cast by Mrs. Obama and her girls who came here to spread their own message that there is still work to be done.

Is that really a question any responsible journalist should ask, ever? Not only is it the softest of softball questions, but the actual question is preceded by a strawman so flimsy that it can barely stand up on its own.

“Somee argue” that Bush did more for AIDS/HIV than Barack Obama? This implies that there is some valid argument that the converse is true, which is simply not true. When Desmond Tutu, Time, Politico, and Newsweek have all crushed the President on his lack of help compared to that given by George W. Bush, well, you have to ask yourself who, exactly is on the President’s side on this one.

Well, besides David Muir of ABC News, that is.

But back to the point. What reputable journalist asks a question that, when you cook it down to its most concentrated form, becomes “Is Michelle Obama’s awesomeness spectacular or just sort of ordinary?” That’s something you’d find in an interview in Tiger Beat magazine or a celebrity crush interview in a high school newspaper, not on a serious weekly issues program.

That entire report was just embarrassing and ABC News should be ashamed of itself for letting it get past their “layers and layers” of editors.

Clearing the Browser Tabs – Running the Gunwalkers to Ground Sunday Edition

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 11:48 AM PDT

The story of Operation Fast and Furious is moving a lot faster now than it was a month or two ago. We have learned that weapons that “walked” from the operation turned up in the torture and murder of the brother of a Mexican state attorney general. Moe Lane rightly says that this is a huge deal — wars have begun over far less. Meanwhile, the acting head of the ATF, who a week ago was reportedly close to resigning his post, may not be all that willing to take the fall for the administration. Chris Muir has the hypothetical Fast and Furious answering service message from the White House.

The MSM, save for Sharyl Atkisson at CBS News has either flatly ignored the story or has misrepresented key facts to make the entire episode seem like a Republican witch-hunt. Captain’s Journal dismantled a Washington Post hit piece on Congressman Darrell Issa, whose committee is digging into Fast and Furious (via Instapundit). This NPR report is an almost perfect example of the deception being perpetrated by the MSM on a growing scandal that could damage the administration worse than the Iran-Contra Affair damaged the Reagan administration.

Let me remind you, over 150 Mexican officials, 2 US law enforcement agents, and an unknown but large number of Mexican civilians have been killed by Mexican narco-terrorist criminal cartels with weapons the ATF let them have. These are facts. Heck, we even know about how many guns “walked” into Mexico (contra the NRP report, the number was more than 1,700). What we do not know is who ultimately gave the order that allowed these guns to walk. That is what we must find out, and anyone who wants to get in the way of the investigation, be it a member of the administration or a dishonest media outlet, must be made to account for their actions.

The blood of the dead demand it.

And now, links.
