Clearing the Browser Tabs – Revenge of the ATMs Thursday Edition Posted: 16 Jun 2011 03:10 AM PDT The President’s intemperate remarks about ATMs not surprisingly struck a nerve among those good Americans who make, service, and rely upon ATMs for the livelihoods (via Pat Austin). Try not to act too surprised. What amazes me most is not that it was yet another in a string of unforced errors from a man we were assured was the smartest man to become President in recent memory. No, I knew that was pure hype. I’m more astonished that even though it must be abundantly obvious to the President that almost every extemporaneous conversation he’s had in public view had ended badly, he simply won’t shut up. It’s almost as if he has no one around him capable of telling him he’s anything less than Super Awesome. And now, links!

To Serve, Protect, And Enforce Regulation 92-B, Section I, Sub-Section (b), Paragraph 2 Posted: 15 Jun 2011 03:39 PM PDT Yeah, I think our Federal government has gotten just the teensiest bit out of hand. An advertisement has popped up on a few blogs I read and I decided to capture the image and share it with you.
Boy, that’s inspiring, isn’t it? Can you just imagine that parents all over America are telling their kids right now that if they eat their veggies and study hard, they too can become a Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Legal Affairs at the Transportation Security Administration. Then again, I suppose the TSA doesn’t have a lot of choice right now. Their grope-happy ways have probably brought them so many legal threats that they need a few more Deputy Assistant Administrators to bolster the small army of Assistant Administrators who in turn will support the efforts of the Administrator in squashing all the legal imbroglios in which the Happy Hands People have embroiled themselves lately. |
Posted: 15 Jun 2011 03:31 PM PDT Apropos of nothing, I checked the “stats” part of my WordPress dashboard. I’ve written 6,763 posts since I started The Sundries Shack over 7 years ago. If I assume an average blog post length of 500 words (and that may be a bit low), that works out to 3,381,500 total words written over that time. Or 483,071 words a year. Or 40, 256 words a month. Or about 1,341 words a day. Part-time. Yeesh. |
Medicare is AOK Says the “Republican” Senate Candidate from Florida Posted: 15 Jun 2011 02:55 PM PDT There is a Soooooper Genius Republican in Florida running for US Senate name Mike Haridopolos. I mention him to you because he is not a very nice man.
That, by the way, is the Paul Ryan plan in a nutshell but Mike Whatever-the-hell-his-name-is doesn’t know that because he hasn’t done his homework. It wouldn’t be difficult to build at least a passing familiarity with the plan, by the way. It would take perhaps a couple hours actually reading Ryan’s plan and maybe another hour or so with any of the well-researched analyses freely available on the internet. But he has no interest in that. He had some pandering to do! After all, that research won’t help him scare the bejeezus out of the senior citizens he’ll need to vote for him in the primary election even though the truth about Medicare is far more frightening than his fantasy. You think I’m being too rough on Mike Happyslappypuss? Here’s how he’d “fix” Medicare.
That, folks, is pandering, and it’s flat-out irresponsible. It doesn’t take a genius to look at the current Medicare situation, compare it to our rapidly-aging population, and realize that a few paltry defense cuts won’t do it. And if he really believes our economy will grow fast enough to capture enough in Medicare withholding from the people who are working to pay for the people who aren’t, well, he’s not fit to work a McDonald’s drive-through much less sit in the United States Senate. Of course he doesn’t believe that. No human being capable of walking upright and forming simple words believes that Medicare can survive unless we make some fairly major changes to the system. The people out there right now saying that things are great just as they are, like Mike Hairbearbunch and Nancy Pelosi, are lying to you in the hope that you will buy their lie just long enough to let them grab another small bit of personal power. In other words, they’re trading their integrity and your well-being for a few years of luxurious perks and a career of cushy speaking engagements. That ought to tick you off. I sure as heck hope it ticks the people of Florida off. (via Sarah Rumpf’s Twitter feed) |
The Delivery Presents – The Other Half of the 2012 Plan Posted: 15 Jun 2011 12:54 PM PDT
I wanted to dig into the most recent GOP candidates’ debate in a way that most other pundits haven’t. I don’t think the performance of any one candidate is particularly important at this point in the campaign; however, the performance of the candidates as a group and how those candidates are packaged by the network that hosted the debate is. It still baffles me that the Republican Party would agree to turn over their entire field of Presidential hopefuls to a group of people as publicly hostile to its mission and ideology as CNN. It baffles me more than nearly all of the candidates would agree to the arrangement. There are alternatives and a discussion of those alternatives, along with the obligatory beatdown off John King’s horrible debate moderation, takes up the first half. The second half deals with political tactics. Wait…don’t run away! It’s not as boring as you think. I wouldn’t bore you with tedious strategy stuff, would I? Of course I wouldn’t. I want more people to listen, not less! Take a few minutes and read this piece by Ace, which provides my jumping-off point. I don’t think I covered more ground than Ace did, but I did marry the need to define and freeze Barack Obama to last week’s plea for some unabashed love for America and trust in Americans. I’d like that two-pronged simple message to get deep into the bones of a couple or three of the GOP’s candidates, so deeply that it can’t help but come out at every opportunity. Oh, and some big “ratings” news is on the way. In short, The Delivery’s download numbers are good. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
