Clearing the Browser Tabs – Ain’t Nothing but a Union Mob Now Friday Edition Posted: 07 Oct 2011 03:10 AM PDT The #OccupyWallStreet rallies have picked up steam the past couple of days. Well, it’s not #OccupyWallStreet anymore. The new Twitter hashtag is #OWS, most likely because someone finally realized that shorter is better when you only have 140 characters to use. After all, those revolutionary socialist slogans and hipster wine-fests need some space! Moe Lane noticed a couple interesting things about both the increased media coverage of the rallies and the uptick in violence perpetrated by rally members and sympathizers. You won’t be surprised to learn that they both happened about the same time a certain well-heeled progressive interest group got involved (via memeorandum). Meanwhile, the march that is purportedly for the people is doing harm to hard-working Americans who simply want to do their jobs and live their lives in peace. And now, links!

SolyndraScam Takes its First Bite of the Administration Posted: 06 Oct 2011 08:06 PM PDT
Silver took over as head of the program after the Solyndra deal went through, so he’s not on the hook for it and he was in charge when the department killed a second $469 million loan to the same company. If he’s guilty of anything, so far as I can see, it was a foolish devotion to the gossamer promises of “green jobs”. There are plenty of people who share his misplaced faith. On the other hand, we shouldn’t applaud him too much. He held on to that second Solyndra loan to the bitter end. The only thing that kept it from going through was a report from Solyndra’s own auditors that the company was on the verge of collapse. He’s a minor player in SolyndraScam but he was highly-placed and on the way out (since the program expired at the end of September and was not renewed), which makes him a convenient place for what few MSM outlets that have dug into the scandal to stop. The bigger figures — Secretary Chu, Valerie Jarrett, Vice President Biden, and the President himself — are still out there, though, and I guarantee you that SolyndraScam goes through more than one of them. The MSM has little interest in pursuing this story that far, though I hope one or two ambitious and ethical journalists see it through to the end. The White House abused our trust and launched what looks for all the world like an extensive money laundering scheme. Jonathan Silver is not the only person responsible for it, nor is he the most powerful. Michelle Malkin asks if he’ll stay quiet or give up what he knows about what really happened. I don’t know if the Republicans in Congress have enough leverage to make his testimony worth his while (and Democrats certainly have no interest in the truth) but whatever they have, they ought to use. |
The Back-Room of the GOP is Working Overtime and They Have an Ally Posted: 06 Oct 2011 01:12 PM PDT
That’s a nice little narrative the Associated Press has, and I’m certain that’s the way the old-school GOP insiders want the race framed, but it’s wrong. Let’s jump over the fact that Republican voters do not consider this a two-man race. There is another major contender and while the AP relegated Herman Cain to a brief mention deep in the article, Republican voters at this point take him very seriously. I’m actually more interested in how the AP, no doubt echoing the whispers of those GOP insiders, has characterized the race. Mitt Romney is the experienced candidate? Rick Perry is a novice candidate? Let’s look at that for a minute. Mitt Romney has run for office three times and won once. He has spent four years in office as Governor. Rick Perry has run for office eight times and won eight times. He served as a state legislator for six years, as Texas Agricultural Commissioner for six years, as Lieutenant Governor of Texas for almost two years, and as Governor of Texas for almost eleven. Texas is 3 3/4 times larger than Massachusetts, which means that during just one of Perry’s four statewide elections, he courted more voters than Romney did in two of his. Romney, on the other hand, has run for national office (and won 11 state primaries, with a total vote slightly less to that won by Perry in his Gubernatorial elections) while Perry has not. Consider also that Perry has worked with both George W. Bush and Karl Rove in his career and they knew a few things about how to win elections. On the whole, though, you’d have to work awfully hard to make a convincing case that Romney is experienced while Perry is the novice. The AP, and whoever is behind the bogus narrative of the two-man race, is obviously willing to put in that work. Too bad they weren’t interested in working hard to tell you the truth. If this election comes down to political experience, Rick Perry should, and will, win no matter what the dinosaurs of the GOP have to say. |
