Clearing the Browser Tabs – Sarah’s Out Thursday Edition

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 03:10 AM PDT

Sarah Palin is officially not running for President. She made the announcement on Mark Levin’s radio show last night and gave a few broad hints about what she might do instead. I’m not particularly torn up about her decision. For months I’ve said that I wasn’t entirely sure she would run and I’ve never been particularly high on her as a Presidential candidate. However, I am very high on her ability to push conservative principles farther into the nooks and crannies of government. She is very good at pushing an issue into public view and she would do a considerable amount of good if she continued to do that with more vigor.

The one person who must be cursing Palin’s name right now is Nicole Wallace, the political consultant who worked on the McCain campaign who very loudly trashed Palin shortly after the election. Wallace recently released a new book wherein she continued her strategy of riding Palin’s coattails to a level of fame she could never achieve on her own. Now that Palin is ducking into the background a bit, Wallace’s book won’t make the best-seller list, which just makes me all sorts of sad.

Wait, no. Happy. It makes me all sorts of happy. Because Nicole Wallace is a bottom-feeder whose book is already being shredded as a collection of fantasies. If I had my way, she’d never work in politics again. She’s untrustworthy.

And now, links!

Marizela has been missing for seven months now. Remain vigilant, my friends in the greater Seattle area.

R.I.P. Steve Jobs — Visionary, Genius, Maker of Lovely Things that Work Well

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 05:01 PM PDT

This is big news that just came across my Twitter feed. He was 56 years old.

BREAKING: Apple says Steve Jobs has died.Wed Oct 05 23:36:26 via CoTweet

He had been battling pancreatic cancer for several months at least and was not doing well when he stepped down as CEO of Apple. Yesterday’s big announcement at Apple HQ was the first time in a long time the company had one that didn’t feature Jobs.

I can’t think of anyone in the world of business, with the possible exception of Bill Gates, who was more revolutionary or more controversial. He was a man of exceptional vision, a brilliant marketer, and one of the shrewdest business minds the world has ever seen. His legacy will live for decades, if not longer, as it should.

It would be a very good thing is we saw more detailed stories about his life and work over the next few weeks. For example, did you know that Jobs was adopted, that he also founded Pixar Animation Studios, or that his salary at Apple was $1 last year and has been that way since 1998? We need more of his kind these days.

Take a few minutes and listen to the commencement speech he gave at Stanford University in 2005. I think every entrepreneur should keep this speech bookmarked for the times when quitting seems like a pretty good option.

Here, by the way, is the back cover of the October 1974 Whole Earth Catalog (this edition actually called the Whole Earth Epilog) that Jobs mentioned in that speech.

UPDATE: This is a marvelous post by Michelle Malkin on Steve Jobs and the “spontaneous order of capitalism”.

The Delivery Presents – I Juggle Better than The President

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 02:15 PM PDT

In every broadcaster’s life, there comes a show when the goofiness simply bursts forth in an irrepressible fount. Episode 114 was that show for me. I hope you enjoy it, because I had a great time recording it. For the record, I really did juggle a couple baseballs, which was not easy considering I don’t exactly have a lot of room to move in my palatial broadcasting suite. Now, if you were among the Deliverati in the show’s live chatroom, you’d know that. If you weren’t, why not write next week’s show into your schedule now?

Oddly enough, the post title sums up the show perfectly. There is a lot of corruption going on in Washington right now, on a scale we’ve never seen before in this country. Usually, the sort of corruption that leaves over 200 people dead and filters a few hundred millions dollars to cronies is what you get in African or Latin American countries. Well, it’s here now, thanks to SolyndraScam and Operation Fast and Furious.

The second half is all about the entertainment, specially why entertainment needs to be a vital part of your social media repertoire. Did you know you have a social media repertoire? You do.
