Clearing the Browser Tabs – Choke on the Budget Wednesday Edition. Posted: 16 Feb 2011 03:10 AM PST The President released his budget this week and holy cow is it a monster. The outcry against it was so loud that he scheduled a press conference today to explain how it wasn’t nearly as bad as we think it is. It didn’t help, even with an extra helping of fear-mongering. In the end, Steve Eggleston is right: We’d be better off with nothing than with this bloated monstrosity. Keep an eye out for the newest episode of The Delivery. I think you’ll want to jump right on it when it comes out. And now, (more) links! The 800-pound gorilla is on the loose! Now is the time at Ed Driscoll where he juxtaposes. If we have to break a few eggs to fix our deficit mess, better those eggs be federal eggs. It’s a shame that The Cape probably won’t get a second season. It’s one of the most interesting and flat-out fun shows I’ve seen in a long time. These days, archaeology is getting some help from the heavens. Look Out Darryl! The Keyboard Commandos Are After You! Posted: 15 Feb 2011 01:00 PM PST I guess if you don’t like what the messenger is about to say, you can always attack the messenger. Wait, did I say attack? What I meant was clumsily threaten and intimidate. Democrats are understandably obsessed with Darrell Issa — he's built himself up as a one-man investigative machine aimed straight at the Obama presidency. But a handful of liberal political operatives in California — including a former Hillary Clinton hand — are taking their anti-Issa passion to a whole new level, launching a nonprofit group, a website and even paid media advertisements aimed at undermining and investigating the rabble-rousing chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. They say they're leaving no stone unturned in digging into Issa's personal and business history. This week, the group will reveal more than 100 pages about an investigation into a fire that burned down a building that housed his business in the early 1980s. The launch of this group — which calls itself The Third Lantern, and is naming the website the Issa Files — is remarkable because it's wholly focused on the activities of one lawmaker who has no immediate plans to run for higher office. The purpose of this new group is to make public documents more public, make life difficult for Issa and sow seeds of doubt on his investigations. I’m sure this isn’t technically blackmail, in the sense that The Third Lantern can’t be criminally charged for its rather ham-handed threats, but we know darned well what we’re looking at here. This is an attempt by yet another progressive group to use thuggery to get what it couldn’t get with reasoned debate in the public arena. Democrats lost in November, lost worse than anyone has lost since before World War II, and the bitterness has overwhelmed them. They can’t stomach their defeat. It gnaws at them to see that Darryl Issa intends to follow through on the promises of transparency that Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama have broken so often that All the King’s Horses and All the King’s Men didn’t even bother to show up to see if they could try to put them back together. And so they marshal their money men and launch this badly-disguised, cartoonish attempt to force Issa to be quiet. They would have been much better off to send two thick-necked guys with ill-fitting suits and bad grammar to threaten him. At least that way Democrats could say they’re creating jobs for their working class instead of shoveling cash into the pockets of cowardly keyboard jockeys, who couldn’t level a real threat without nervous, girlish giggling and hide behind a cloak of anonymity.
