Clearing the Browser Tabs – Fast and Furious Update Wednesday Edition Posted: 17 Aug 2011 03:10 AM PDT I’ve collected a few more stories about the still-growing Operation Fast and Furious scandal that you might not have seen because, save for a couple reporters like Sharyl Atkisson at CBS News, few outlets seems interested in the story beyond the obvious “Why do Republicans hate President Obama so” spin. That said, this is the kind of story that could make a young investigative reporter’s career, mich in the way that Watergate made the careers of Woodward and Bernstein. I find it unbelievable that there is no potential “Deep Throat” inside the administration. So, here are some new developments. First, we’ve learned that not only was the BATFE neck-deep in Fast and Furious, so much that its acting attaché in Mexico ripped the operation in front of a Congressional committee, but so was the DEA and the Justice Department. Meanwhile, the BATFE has promoted all the supervisors involved in the operation to positions of greater responsibility (via memeorandum). All three men are now working in Washington, DC and my well-honed cynicism tells me that the administration just might want them very close to home as the Congressional investigation heats up. And speaking of my cynical nature, I don’t think that this blatant hit piece about Congressman Issa by the New York Times, just happened. There is only one reason Issa is newsworthy — his committee is the one digging into Fast and Furious. I know a ham-handed attempt to poison an investigation when I see it. Last night’s show was…interesting. We did try to do the full podcast and live show as planned, but my internet connection just wasn’t up to it. We did get a podcast done, and it’s unlike anything you’ve heard from The Delivery before. With luck, I’ll get my phone lines repaired before next week’s show or we may have to do the same thing again. I don’t want that any more than you do, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and send many prayers Heavenward. And now, links!

Ed Schultz’s “Big Black Cloud” is a Big Fat Lie Posted: 16 Aug 2011 04:09 PM PDT
Well, it’s the metaphor that’s done in our dear Ed today. You see, Rick Perry has entered the Presidential race and as the successful Governor of a state that has prospered despite the Obama Recession, he must be destroyed by any means possible. So, Schultz and his crack team of editors, got right to work on a recent Perry speech from Iowa and crafted a story so dishonest that it beggars belief. Schultz devoted a segment in a recent show to Perry and the racism that Schultz wants America to believe boils just below his twangy Texas surface. Here’s his monologue.
And that, folks, is a big fat lie from a big fat liar, and not a very good lie either. I know it’s a lie because Ed Schultz knows the truth and chose to misrepresent it in the most clumsy and unintelligent manner possible. I may be a humble blogger without a fancy college degree, but I know English well enough to know that when someone mentions the word “debt”, then drops in a comma, the next phrase is going to talk about the debt. No one, not even the most fumble-tongued public speaker would shift gears from business, the economy, and the debt to the President in the middle of a sentence without even an attempt at a segue. Schultz knows this because he’s paid handsomely to run his trap on national television. He’s familiar with basic rhetoric. But that’s not the worst part of his lie. You’ll notice that there is an ellipsis (…) after the “big black cloud” phrase. That’s because Schultz cut off Perry’s comments in mid-sentence. When you watch the video, you’ll see that Perry’s mouth kept moving even as the sound cut off. Here’s what Schultz and his team cut out.
So even if you didn’t figure out that “debt” and “big black cloud” go together the first time, the Governor made the connection explicit. But Schultz edited that out so he could perpetuate a ridiculous lie and feed that lie to his guests who waited to pounce on it with bated breath. Ed Schultz owes Rick Perry a public apology, at the very least. If MS-NBC has any interest in journalistic integrity at all, they’d suspend Schultz, make a direct apology to Perry on the behalf of the network, and pray that he doesn’t sue them for slander. Watch this video and enjoy the calumny. |
The Political Trip That’s Not A Political Trip Starring the Community Organizer Who is President Posted: 16 Aug 2011 01:00 PM PDT
Did you get that? He’s not campaigning. This is not a political trip. He’s just having a discussion. Never mind the mocking impression of Mitt Romney or the dig at Rick Perry or the shots at House Republicans he’s made so far. None of that’s political. He’s just engaging with the American people. Okay, not all of them. There were a few Americans he wouldn’t engage — the ones who asked him why his Vice President called them terrorists. But it’s okay! It’s not a political trip. Not even a little bit.
Gosh, how could that ever be construed as political campaigning? Clearly that’s community organizing, which as we know from the President’s many MSM defenders is a pursuit too pure to be pursued by a politician. Yep, just some good, old-fashioned community organizing where he can blame everyone else for the problems he has no idea how to fix and for which he won’t have to pay one thin dime. And doesn’t that just about sum up the President’s entire political career? |
