Clearing the Browser Tabs – The Job-Seeking Blues Friday Edition Posted: 20 May 2011 03:10 AM PDT I’m not really breaking any news when I say that it’s tough for a young person to find a job. The high unemployment rate of the Obama Economy has driven job seekers into entry-level positions they would not have otherwise taken, and the minimum wage guarantees that there will be fewer of those position available than employers might have if they could hire people at a lower wage. Luckily, The Anchoress’ son Buster has a very clear view of the problems and a sense of humor about his situation. As I have learned recently, most companies deal with applicants at arms’ length, which means that good workers like Buster (and I) don’t have a chance to make a personal impression. Not all companies work that way, but it’s a bigger quest to find a good company that still hires people the old (and best) way as it is to find one that’s hiring people at all. Perhaps good, old-fashioned entrepreneurship really is the best way to find gainful employment, at least until we can change Presidents and drive our economy out of the ditch into which he’s buried us. The podcast link will be out some time today. SMP Mike got it up yesterday, and it’s available through iTunes, but I’ve been a bit jammed up at work and I may be so again today. But it’ll be up as soon as I can get the post written! And now, links!
