Clearing the Browser Tabs – Oh Canada Wednesday Edition Posted: 04 May 2011 03:10 AM PDT For the first time since its founding in 2003, the Conservative Party of Canada now holds the majority of the seats in the Canadian Parliament. Michael Barone has a very good summary of the results and a few thoughts on how Canada voted in the first clearly conservative government I can recall in my lifetime. The other interesting result of the election is that the Bloc Quebecois separatist party is essentially done as a political power in Canada. I’m sure it will continue to exist for a few hardliners here and there, but it seems to have been absorbed by the more or less liberal New Democrat party. As of now, though, Canada is essentially a two-party nation and the conservative have firm control. Democrats in America should take note. Last night’s show went swimmingly — all Osama bin Laden, but a couple different variations on the dead terrorist theme. The announcement post will be out a bit later in the morning. And now, links! Congressional Republicans have released a seven-point jobs program (pdf link). I haven’t gone over it fully, but from what I read of Andrew Stiles’ summary, it bears an interesting resemblance to Herman Cain’s economic plan. So, it turns out that free trade is really good for our economy and creates jobs. It makes you wonder why the left opposes it so. Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show”: Speaking Truth for Power. Jennifer Rubin wonders if Mitch Daniels has any foreign policy interest at all. I talked about this post on this week’s The Delivery. I don’t think she can fairly extrapolate what she has from what is, essentially, a reasonable refusal to make a meaningless statement about Osama bin Laden’s death. You know how the debt ceiling deadline was the proverbial end of the world? Well, it’s been pushed back until at least the beginning of August. I guess our government could find some money to pay our loan interest after all. I think John Nolte has written the essential article on the concerted MSM/progressive new media effort to destroy Sarah Palin’s political career through her children. I like Stephen Green’s answer to the higher education bubble. Perhaps one week I’ll devote a segment of The Delivery to how we have overemphasized the need for a college degree. Even though I’m a weather junkie, I still confuse a tornado watch with a tornado warning. I’m sure the NWS could come up with a naming convention that makes more sense than the one we have now.
