Clearing the Browser Tabs – Back to Winter Thursday Edition

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 03:10 AM PDT

Today is Thursday, which as we all know, is the day before Friday. Saturday, I have heard, comes after. Normally, this would make me glad — the upcoming weekend, not the song reference I just made in a vain attempt to get the excerpt SMP Mike played for us at the end of Tuesday’s live Delivery show — but I’m not feeling much glee.

For some reason, perhaps related to global warming, Spring has gone on an early vacation and has abandoned us to a rather ticked-off Winter. The weather forecast shows temps in the low 40s heading toward a rendezvous with, believe it or not, snow in some amount late Saturday night or Sunday morning. Snow. In Maryland. In late March.

Al Gore can go soak his foolish head.

And now, links!

An Exit Strategy That’s Not an Exit Strategy for A War That’s Not A War

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 12:37 PM PDT

Sunday, I wrote a post titled “To Heck With an Exit Strategy, Can the President Tell Us His Entry Strategy for Libya?”. When I wrote that, I thought surely President would have such a strategy for whatever the heck it is he’s doing in Libya, considering the Democratic Party’s obsession with the phrase “exit strategy” from 2003 to 2009. As it happens, I shouldn’t have been quite so quick to believe he’d show us a shred of either consistency or clarity.

That’s not to say we don’t have an exit strategy for Libya. We do, for certain values of the phrase.

In an interview with Univision Tuesday, President Obama re-defined the term "exit strategy," and said our exit strategy in Libya would begin this week.

"The exit strategy will be executed this week," President Obama said, "in the sense that we will be pulling back from our much more active efforts to shape the environment. We will still be in a support role. We will be supplying jamming, intelligence and other assets unique to us.”

Planes in the air? Ships in the Mediterranean? Intelligence being provided? Doesn't sound like an exit strategy at all.

No, it certainly does not. It sounds a whole lot like a war which, thanks to the administration’s “English to Incomprehensible B.S.” translator, isn’t actually a war but a “Kinetic Military Action”. You’ve heard the phrase “he thinks around corners”? Well, President Obama thinks around M.C. Escher paintings. That’s not a good thing for a President leading his nation into war. Wait, did I say war? I meant KMA. Or WTF. Or something.

So, here’s what we know so far. In days or weeks we’ll hand over the leadership we don’t have of this war that’s not a war, the object of which is to remove Muammar Qadaffi from power but not any time soon or not even at all, to one of our coalition partners who may or may not still be a coalition partner so we can begin our exit strategy that’s not an exit strategy.

That’s the sort of clear direction you get from a thinker who’s not a thinker and a leader who’s not a leader.
