Clearing the Browser Tabs – An Abundance of Links Thursday Edition Posted: 03 Mar 2011 03:10 AM PST Blogging was nearly non-existent yesterday and will be again today. I have a couple pressing projects — one for my current job and one that will, if the Almighty wills it and I write well, land me another job. The latter took up much of my free-thinking time today and will likely consume much of it tomorrow. I expect to be right again Friday. Thank you for bearing with me. And now, links! - Yesterday was the 175th anniversary of Texas’ independence. My friend April read through the Texas Declaration of Independence and found a few very neat things we could use today.
- The Democrats squealed when the Republicans proposed a measly $60 billion in cuts to this year’s budget. They said the government was, for all intents and purposes, entirely essential. Well, this chart and this GAO report says that’s bunk, and so will you once you see them.
- Unions never stop their quest for more ill-gotten power. See how they tried, with the full cooperation of the then-Governor, to co-opt over 16,000 unwilling workers in Michigan. Note that the key mode of attack was automatic deduction of union dues without the taxpayer’s permission. While you’re at it, check out what it takes, exactly, to fire an incompetent teacher in Chicago.
- You will not believe who recently said, “Fiscal responsibility is a part of who we are.” Seriously, you won’t.
- America does not want electric cars, so why is our President so intent on dumping piles of cash into them and jacking up our gas prices to force us toward them?
- Paul Krugman wants us to believe that Wisconsin’s schools are superior because its teachers have full collective bargaining. If only he had some expertise in numbers and statistics or something.
- If this was a real book, I’d buy it: Goodnight, Dune.
