The Delivery Presents – A Real SotU Rebuttal

Posted: 27 Jan 2011 06:10 AM PST

As I mentioned in a post yesterday morning, the early leak of the President’s State of the Union address put me in an interesting position when it came time to record Episode 75. I could either roll with the topics I picked out, in the usual format, or I could do 90 minutes of some pretty intensive show prep and rebut the speech as it was happening. Well, who wouldn’t make the rebuttal choice? I mean, aside from the GOP and Tea Party Express, who decided to spurn the gift they’d been given and run with their pre-programmed, spit-polished rebuttals which are getting about as much coverage today as all the other boring rebuttals over the years.

It that harsh? I don’t think so. If your target has jumped up and waved a red flag, it doesn’t make sense to send your salvo to the place where you thought the target was eight hours before. Both Ryan and Bachmann had opportunities to put some rounds square on the target and they didn’t. Why? I have no idea.

I, on the other hand, gave the speech a pretty good run. I don’t have a staff of writers and a crack research team, but I did have 90 minutes and the internet. There wasn’t time to get through the whole speech, but I hit the biggest points I saw and still left a few things unsaid. There was a lot in the speech to rebut and not nearly enough time. Still, in all, it’s a darned good show and I think you’re going to like it quite a bit.

Clearing the Browser Tabs – Another Snowy Thursday Edition

Posted: 27 Jan 2011 03:10 AM PST

Well, we got it. The big one. The snowstorm that darned-near paralyzed Washington, DC. As storms go, it wasn’t a particularly big one, but the combination of rain followed by freezing rain followed by thundersnow (yes, there was lots of thundersnow) turned the city into a Commuter Hell the likes of which I haven’t seen in a long while. My brother had to work in the city and traffic was so bad because of the storm that what is normally a 45-minute drive turned into a 4 hour and 45 minute drive for him.

Yes, it was that bad.

So, if you’re one of the fortunate souls who will stay home today instead of mushing your way to the office, congratulations! Be sure to check out the latest episode of The Delivery, which will be right on the front page, and enjoy your day off.

And now, links!

UPDATE: What? Today’s Thursday? Awww crud…
