Newsweek’s Horrible Unlife As a Propaganda Rag Continues Posted: 16 Jan 2012 09:54 PM PST When I first saw this, I swore to myself it had to be some sort of Photoshopped spoof. It’s not, though. I remember when the magazine was respectable, when its editors and authors had some sense of pride. Those days are long gone, though. Now, the magazine is a vanity project for its “editor” Tina Brown, who only marketable ability has been to convince people with more money than intelligence that they should ignore her long string of failures and hand her the controls of another publication so she can pilot it into the side of a mountain. But her descent into vapid propagandist can be our gain. Newsweek’s cover has already provided fodder for some delightful Photoshop responses that capture the tenor of the magazine perfectly. I’d take any one of them over the real cover. They, at least, show off some wit and maturity.

The Delivery Presents – The Capitalism I Want (Plus a SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT) Posted: 16 Jan 2012 09:02 PM PST SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE: Due to scheduling issues, I’ve had to move the live version of The Delivery to a new time on Tuesday nights: 8:30 PM Eastern Time. Yep, that’s an hour earlier than normal, so please, mark your calendars and fancy reminder apps. Again, the new time for the live version of The Delivery is 8:30 PM ET, Tuesday Nights. I’m pretty sure I never expected to be on the opposite side of an issue from Rush Limbaugh, but all this silliness over “vulture capitalism” finally did it. Episode 129 is my defense of Newt Gingrich and my stand against the defense of capitalism simply because it’s capitalism. At some point, we conservatives must draw the line between good business and fiscal rapaciousness. After what we’ve learned happened on Wall Street in the years before the housing and credit crashes, we on the right must learn that not every business practice is worth our defense. Legal and right are not synonymous and, as much as I hate to say it, Rush smeared a good man because he was unwilling to differentiate between the two. I don’t expect many of my conservative friends will agree with me, but I’m willing to stand by myself on this one if I must. 2011 was a pretty good year for The Delivery. I went over the year-end download numbers toward the end of the show — over 13,000 downloads each month on average — and ended on a high note. I’ve said this more times than I can count, but I love making The Delivery every week. I’m proud that SMPMike and I can put something together that so many of you enjoy and we have plans for much, much more. The Delivery Presents – Corruption and Zombies and #Caring. Oh Joy! Posted: 16 Jan 2012 08:47 PM PST I think that Episode 128 may mark the point at which you could hear me flat-out give up on the belief that the Republican Party has any real interest in smaller, more responsible government. There are four stories from the past few years that all point to the massive amount of arrogance, incompetence, and corruption in our Federal government and I’m beyond flabbergasted that the GOP hasn’t done everything it can to keep them in the headlines every day. Of course, the folks responsible for all the messages from the Republican Party and its various parts are highly-paid, experienced political professionals so I’m sure they know what they’re doing. I mean, they must have some grand scheme in mind, right? Kurt Schlichter came along for the second half, in which we started talking about shows that spend too much time on feelings and too little time on plausible plots and realistic character motivations. By the end, we had pretty much planned out how we’d survive a zombie apocalypse, which may just come in handy, so be sure to take notes! Oddly enough, the segue between the two subjects was pretty smooth, if I do say so myself. You don’t get that on just any podcast. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’ Grotesque Puppet Show — Now with Tea Parties! Posted: 11 Jan 2012 06:05 PM PST I hesitate to call DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz a liar, but I have noticed that she’s taken a precipitous turn toward partisan claptrap that has no basis in reality in her role as Official Spokesjerk of the Democratic Party. “We need to make sure that we tone things down, particularly in light of the Tucson tragedy from a year ago, where my very good friend, Gabby Giffords — who is doing really well, by the way, — [was shot],” Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chair said during a “Politics and Eggs” forum this morning. “The discourse in America, the discourse in Congress in particular . . . has really changed, I’ll tell you. I hesitate to place blame, but I have noticed it take a very precipitous turn towards edginess and lack of civility with the growth of the Tea Party movement.” Having brought up the Giffords attack as a political cudgel, Wasserman Schultz doubled down on that attack. “You had town hall meetings that [the Tea Party] tried to take over, and you saw some their conduct at those town hall meetings,” Wasserman Schultz said today. “When they come and disagree with you, you’re not just wrong, you’re the enemy.” I want to note a couple things here. First, the violence we’ve seen at political events over the last two years didn’t happen at town meetings attended by Tea Partiers. Second, the man who committed the heinous crimes in Tucson last year wasn’t a Tea Partier. In fact, his political views, if you could call the random assortment of conspiracy theories and pure nuttery that Jared Loughner espoused “views”, were not Tea Party at all. Third, the edgy and uncivil rhetoric has come from other sources much closer to the center of Democratic political power. Of course, none of that matters. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz could care less about rational political discourse, not when she can dance her wounded friend around like a marionette to generate a little cheap heat in front of the hometown crowd. She needs to apologize to the millions of Americans she slandered. She won’t, but she needs to, and if the Democratic Party itself had any decency at all, its membership would demand it of her. The Almost Great GOP Campaign Ad Posted: 10 Jan 2012 06:10 PM PST I agree with Nice Deb. This GOP campaign video is good, but not quite there. What’s missing? Let’s go back to Nice Deb’s post for the answer. But that barely scrapes the surface of how divisive this President has been. The "hope and change" candidate who was sold as having "a first class temperament", has proven to be a petty, thin skinned, whiny, vindictive dictator. He started off his Presidency by telling Republicans "not to do a lot of talking", to "get out of the way", or "grab a broom" and help him clean up the mess they made. He mocked opponents of Obamacare, during his victory lap after its passage. He told Republicans to "get in the back seat", and  accused them a sipping slurpies while he did the hard work of getting "the car out of the ditch" not once, but dozens of times.. As the car sunk further and further into the ditch, he continued to blame Bush, and the "do nothing congress" even though Democrats had total control for two full years and every damn thing they did made things worse. And that barely touches on the problems we’ve had with The Obamessiah. His pointed disregard for the Constitution will cause us trouble for years after he’s gone. Presidents love to invoke the precedents set by Presidents past and the shenanigans our current Chief Executive have pulled will fuel many a battle over executive power that we simply should have have to face. Barack Obama wanted to leave his mark on history and so he will, and not in any good ways at all. The GOP chould have hit him on the truly horrid things he’s done — the things that have left scars on our nation that will take many years to heal, if they heal at all. That they didn’t leads me to believe they’ll run a fairly typical campaign, like they did against Barack Obama four years ago, with similar results.

Today, Let Us Celebrate Ten Years of Cocktail-Fueled Punditry Posted: 10 Jan 2012 05:03 PM PST Stephen Green, who ought to own the title of Hardest Working Man on the Internet, is one of my favorite people in the entire explored universe. Yes, I know that leaves some waggle room that we may one day discover a planet populated with buxom redheads who like action movies, cartoons, and role-playing games at which point he will move down on the list to one minus the number of inhabitants on that wonderful planet. And it’d take some time for me to move him down on the list as my exploration of Planet Wonderful would take a few years, at the very least and I might be out of contact during that time, what with all the fact-finding I’ve be compelled to do purely in the interests of science. I mean, wouldn’t our humble planet require an exhaustive survey of a world where geeky, lovely redheads abound? I certainly think so and would be willing to devote many years to the delivery of that knowledge to the rest of you. Wait…where was I? Oh, yes. Stephen Green. His blog, VodkaPundit, turned ten years old today. That makes him one of the Great Veterans of the Blogosphere. He has built what began in his bedroom into a great success that includes not only his blog, but also a number of video shows for PJ Media and many celebrity appearances. He deserves every minute of his success and, if there is any justice left in the world, should have a great many more (like, say, a regular radio show which would be an immediate smash hit and may require a geeky sidekick with podcasting chops, not that I know such a person…). Go on over and leave him a good word or two!
